Watch out your language rapper Boef!

Watch your language rapper Boef!

Boef (23) is a Dutch rapper and famous through his two hits ‘Louw’ and ‘Hosselen’. Hence he became more famous through his vlogs than his music. A few weeks ago he uploaded a video where you could see how the rapper helped a friend escape from the police. In the same video Boef made a fool of a female police officer because of her looks. In another video he drove the speed limit on the Dutch highway. He drove 300 kilometers per hour. He published every video on the internet by himself.

Last Sunday Boef is arrested by the police because suspicion of sedition. Yesterday he was released and yet the same evening he was invited by RTL Late Night to tell about his vlogs. RTL Late Night is a Dutch talk show which is broadcasted every day between 22:30 and 23:40 on the Dutch commercial TV channel RTL 4.

‘FUCK YOU ALL, NOW I HATE YOU EVEN MORE’

In his vlog he said: ‘But they released me, because they have no proof’. He claims the police are picking on him, because he said against the police he shares the bed with the daughter of a cop. He also said at the police ‘Fuck you all, Now I hate you even more’.

In RTL Late Night a guest of the show, John van de Heuvel, thinks it is very disrespectfull  how he acts against the police, the people who make sure that we are safe on the streets. Also another guest of the show, Minister Jeanine Hennis - Plasschaert, started a discussion with rapper Boef. She claimed the following: ‘Each vlog where is being bullied is one too much’.‘Especially when it comes to the police, because they stand for your freedom and your safety’.

I agree with John van de Heuvel and minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. Additionally, I think an other important point has been forgotten. I think Boef shows very inappropriate behavior against the police in this vlogs. The vlogs has been seen by young boys, who will imitate this behavior after seeing the videos thinks and the will think that it is okay to misbehave and talk inappropriate about and against the police. He influences these young people with his provocative behavior.

Coyne, Padilla-Walker & Howard (2013) claim in their article that emerging adults spend more time using the media than doing any other daily activity. The authors said: ‘This review has revealed the diverse ways in which emerging adults use media and the effect media can have on a number of key behaviors including aggression and pro-social behavior’. They also investigated that many young adults might use the media to assist key developmental process including identity, intimacy and autonomy.

This support my opinion about the influence of rapper Boef on young adults. I stand for freedom of speech, but his meaning and behavior are disrespectful and he is influencing young adults to imitate the bad behavior of rapper Boef. Everyone has to know that his behavior is violating and not appropriate and certainly no one needs to imitate this!
